Definition of Past Continuous Tense in Hindi अपूर्ण भूतकाल क्या होता है?
पास्ट कंटिन्यूस टेंस को हिंदी में अपूर्ण भूतकाल कहा जाता है। इस टेंस का प्रयोग उन गतिविधियों का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो भूतकाल में चल रही थीं और उनके पूरा होने के बारे में कोई जानकारी नहीं हो।
पहचान : हिंदी के जिन वाक्यों के अंत पर रहा था, रहे थे, रही थी आदि लगा हो और कोई भी समय ना दिया गया हो ऐसे वाक्य past continuous tense के अंतर्गत आते हैं।

- I, He, she, it, this, that एकवचन (singular) कर्ता के साथ was सहायक क्रिया का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
- You, we, they और बहुवचन (plural) के साथ were का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
- Verb की पहली फार्म के साथ ing लगाया जाता है।

Examples of Affirmative sentence
Affirmative वाक्य बनाने के लिये वाक्य में सबसे पहले कर्ता (subject) उसके बाद हेल्पिंग वर्ब was/were लगाते हैं। क्रिया की पहली फॉर्म के साथ ing जोड़ा जाता हैं और अंत में object लगाया जाता है।
Structure : Subject + Was/were + verb(1st form+ing) + Object.
Example: रोहित कॉलेज जा रहा था। Rohit was going to college.

भूतकाल की दो घटनाओं का वर्णन करते समय यदि यह बताना हो की जिस समय एक काम जारी था उस समय दूसरा काम पूरा हो गया था, तो पहले कार्य में Past continues tense तथा दुसरे में Past Indefinite tense का प्रयोग होता है।

2. जब तुम आए, मैं पढ़ रहा था। When you came, I was studying.
3. जब मैं गया, वह रो रही थी। When I went, she was crying.
4. जब मैं उठा, सूरज निकल रहा था। When I woke up, the sun was rising.
5. जब वह मुझे मिली, मैं बाजार जा रहा था। When she met me, I was going to the market.
6. जब मैं पहुँचा, वह सो रहा था। When I arrived, he was sleeping.
Examples of Negative sentence
नकारात्मक वाक्य बनाते समय करता के बाद was not या were not लगाकर verb की पहली फार्म (first form) के साथ ing लगाया जाता है।
Structure : Subject +Was/were + Not + V1 + ing + Object.
Example: रोहित कॉलेज नहीं जा रहा था। Rohit was not going to college.

Examples of Interrogative sentence
प्रश्नवाचक (Interrogative) वाक्य बनाते समय was या were सहायक क्रिया (helping verb) को कर्ता से पहले और कर्ता के बाद verb की पहली फॉर्म के साथ ing लगाया जाता है

Uses of Past continuous tense in Hindi
The past continuous tense is used in the following situation:
1. पास्ट कंटीन्यूअस टेंस का उपयोग अतीत में बार-बार की जाने वाली क्रियाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है।
2. इसका प्रयोग ऐसी क्रियाओं को व्यक्त करने किया जाता जो अतीत में एक समय में निरंतर प्रगति पर थी या जारी थी।
3. कोई कार्य बीते समय में शुरू हुआ था लेकिन भूतकाल में समाप्त होना सूचित ना हो और उसी कार्य के चलते रहने का बोध हो।
