Conjunction ऐसे शब्द होते हैं जो दो या दो से अधिक शब्दों या वाक्यों को जोड़ने के लिए प्रयोग किए जाते हैं। जैसे- Sohan is poor but mohan is rich. (राम गरीब है लेकिन मोहन अमीर है।) यहाँ but का प्रयोग दो वाक्य को जोड़ने किए किया गया है अतः but एक प्रकार का conjunction है।

Types of conjunctions with Examples
संयोजक (Conjunctions) दो प्रकार के होते हैं
1 Co-ordinate Conjunctions
2. Sub-coordinate Conjunctions
Co-ordinate Conjunctions
Co-ordinate Conjunctions वे शब्द हैं जो समान स्तर के दो शब्द, Phrases या clauses को जोड़ने के लिए प्रयोग होते हैं।
‘and’ , ‘but’, & ‘yet’ ये दो या दो से अधिक independent sentences को जोड़ते हैं।
For Examples:
1. I tried to convince her, I failed. [I tried to convince her but I failed.]
2. She dressed well. She went to party. [She dressed well and went to party.]
Co-ordinate Conjunctions के चार प्रकार होते हैं:
1. Cumulative or Copulative conjunctions (जोड़ने वाले संयोजक)
इन conjunctions की सहायता से एक वाक्य को दूसरे वाक्य से जोड़ा जाता है। जैसे-
1. Kamal kher was both a actor and director.
2. Akshay is intelligent as well as hardworking.
3. Both Priya and Madhu are singers.
4. Ramu and Shyamu went to college.
2. Adversative conjunctions (विरोधात्मक संयोजक)
इन conjunctions की सहायता से दो ऐसे वाक्यों को जोड़ा जाता है एक दूसरे से विपरीत हो, जैसे-
1. He tried well but could not stand first in the exams.
2. he was tired, yet he continued working.
3. I tried hard, still I failed.
4. Suresh is poor but honest.
3. Disjunctive or Alternative Conjunctions (विकल्पसूचक संयोजक)
इन conjunctions की सहायता से दो ऐसे sentences को जोड़ा जाता है जिनमें दो विकल्पों में से एक को चुनने का बोध होता है, जैसे-
1. Either you are fool or you are very sharp minded.
2. You can take tea or coffee.
3. Either Atul come, or I will go.
4. Amit is neither rich nor poor.
4. Illative conjunction (निष्कर्षसूचक संयोजक)
इन conjunctions की सहायता से दो ऐसे sentences को जोड़ा जाता है जिनमें से एक वाक्य दूसरे का परिणाम हो, जैसे –
1. Sonu was soft hearted, therefore he helped to all.
2. Rahul was ill, so he did not go to school.
3. Kavita worked hard, hence she succeeded.
Sub-coordinate Conjunctions
ये Conjunctions एक dependent clause (subordinate clause) को एक Independent clause (Principal clause) से जोड़ने के लिए प्रयोग होते हैं, तथा कारण, समय, स्थिति, भिन्नता आदि जैसे संबंध दर्शाते हैं।
Independent clauses, जो स्वयं अपने अर्थ को व्यक्त करता है लेकिन Sub-ordinate clause है जो अपने पूर्ण अर्थों को व्यक्त करने के लिए independent clauses पर निर्भर करता है जैसे –

Result –
- If you work hard, you will get the prize.
- He worked hard lest he should fail.
Sub-ordinate conjunctions may be classified to their meaning such as:
1. Condition – If, unless, provided, in case, supporting, etc. Example: You can not catch the train unless you run fast.
2. Manner – as, as thanks, as if, so far, etc. Example: She talks as if she were a lecturer.
3. Comparison – as, so………as, as……..as, etc. Example: Rahul is as completed as an old person.
4. Time – as, after, as soon as, as long as, just as, when, whenever, while, since, till, until, etc.
5. Contrast – although, although……. yet, however, etc. Example: Though Rekha is rich, yet she is decent.
6. Purpose – least, so that, that, in order, etc. Example: I do practice so that I can make my Spanish well
7. Place – whenever, whence, whither, etc. Example: Whenever he sat, a honey bee followed him.
8. Result – so that, such that, etc. Example: Rahul is so simple nobody can say him a Delhite.
Error in the use of conjunction
